Exit through the ticket gates of Komagabayashi Station on the Kobe Municipal Subway Kaigan Line, proceed to the left, and find yourself in a long, gently curving underground passage. At the end of it is the Station 9. Open the door, and a gleaming white corridor awaits... This work reproduces a secret facility inside the Guantanamo Bay detention camp operated by the US military in Cuba. In 2005, Schneider reconstructed in his studio with the help of internet research and reports of this secret prison’s inmates. In this white, sterile space that shows no trace of such horrors, the very absence of people or things evokes universal human emotions of fear of death, guilt, and absurdity.
